People are stupid, they say.

People are stupid, they say.

The lives of ordinary characters
and the art of storytelling.

When we look at the world, we think that it is filled with all kinds of people – the wise and the famous, the scientists and the celebrities, the rich and the poor, the good and the bad, the smart and the stupid. It might be true. We all have our moments, we know we do. But it all depends on how you look. The art of storytelling is to look at the ordinary characters in your story and understanding that they are the heroes of their’s. So when they say that people are stupid, we disagree.

THE FAIRLY UNFAIR WORLD

As an advertising agency, we feel, we are fortunate to sometimes take a step back and look at ourselves, at people, at the world, and see the invisible life that connects us all. In simple moments, while drinking chai at the tapri opposite our office, when we look at the city running in all directions, shouting a name, calling a cab, giggling school kids, and so many others, we see a little of ourself in each of them, trying to get through the day and sometimes having a laugh while at it. Maybe they are laughing about something you know, about something you were laughing in a similar way yesterday, maybe the joke circles around until each one of us has had a little laugh out of it, maybe the laughter lives on in each one of us long after the joke has gone. Maybe. Maybe we’re all just the same stories living in different forms. Same jokes laughing in a different way. Sometimes the chai gets cold and we have to order another one, because the city is so full of them, that sometimes we can’t help but see. Seeing is the beginning of mastering the art of storytelling.

THE MUNDANE EXTRAORDINAIRE

There are times when we look for inspiration or stories in all the usual places, and we don’t find any, not good ones at least, we let it go for a while and just sit and look out of the huge window of our office, and we see the quiet busy road caressing the blue endless ocean and the sun rolling down, and in that moment, all the chatter of our minds disappear and we are left with a silence. And in that silence all we see are the endless stories unfolding before our eyes. We’re all just a simple story coming to life. The inspiration we were looking for walks before us in flesh and blood, alive in all the people we see. And we are just left to wonder how fortunate we are to tell stories of people, to people.

THE ART OF LOOKING

We are the stories that we tell. And we tell the stories of people. We are people. So let them say what they want, we know what we are, and we love it. That, simply, is the art of storytelling.
